The new St.Peter's Wall Hangings Flood cancels blessing!            Home Page

On Monday 2nd October, The Rt.Revd Tim Thornton, Bishop of Sherborne, was due to come to St.Peter's Parkstone where Baden Powell St.Peter's Middle School were to hold their annual Harvest Festival service. The bishop was to have blessed the new wall hangings depicting the story of Noah's Ark (picture enclosed). The hangings were produced by Mrs Wendy Bayldon and Mrs Susan Lewis of St.Peter's Church, but each of the 600 children at the school submitted six suggested designs for the hangings, making over 3,500 possible designs. Different ideas and animals from many of the pictures were incorporated into the final design and the two panels (each approximately 11 x 9 ft) were hung in St.Peter's Church on the morning of 2nd October. Unfortunately, very heavy rain that day led to severe flooding in Poole and the service had to be cancelled. The head teacher, Mr Geoff Pike, said that the school had never known such flooding.  The Rector of St.Peter's, Canon Nigel LLoyd, said that there was a known precedent for severe flooding on completion of an ark full of animals.
