We receive frequents requests for weddings at St.Mary's church on the Island, but we always remind people that they need to contact their local vicar at their local parish church. You need to be an islander to be married on the island.

It is our joy and our privilege to welcome many scout and guide groups to our services on the island. Scouting began here on Brownsea and the Baden-Powells were married at St.Peter's, our mainland church.

The Island became the property of the National Trust in the early 1960s. The John Lewis Partnership use the castle on the island as one of their staff holiday homes. The headquarters of Dorset Wildlife Trust is also located on the island.

A special feature of the island is the annual Shakespeare play, sometimes followed later in the season by an opera.
