THE DIOCESAN VISION

In the first two years Dr.David Stancliffe was bishop of the diocese, he brought in a process of interaction between his ideas and the response of the parishes. He began this process by visiting every single parish. He responded to what he found by giving the diocese a VISION for the future, and then asked the parishes to respond to the vision in a way which identified the resources they needed to carry out that vision.

There were three main elements in the vision:

We need to grow in confidence in our faith

We need to find renewal through sacrificial worship

We need to put our faith into action

Working groups were set up to monitor and respond to the requests of help from the parishes and teams were set up to give advice. Then the whole diocese was restructured to provide the Boards and Committees needed to serve the needs and mission of the diocese. It is an ongoing process of
Church Building from the parish level upwards. A new Bishop's Council has been formed, which meets on a monthly basis as the Standing Committee of the diocese. Greater authority has been given to Rural Deans, who also meet on a regular basis with the bishop.
