Bitton Church

A Prebend is a "pension" and the Prebend of Bitton was in existence by about the year 1150. This means that land or property in Bitton (now in the Bristol Diocese) was used to endow the stall of the Prebendary of Bitton in Salisbury Cathedral. These pictures are of Bitton Church. The fact that some lovely houses next to the church have been renovated and developed as what was once Church Farm would seem to indicate that they originally formed part of a property which belonged to the church and almost certainly provided the "pension" paid to the Prebendary of Bitton.
